You need a new haircut for the new year (yes, even you), and these are the celeb-approved chops experts recommend
There's no better time for a haircut than the start of a new year. Nothing will get you feeling inspired to keep up lofty resolutions quite like looking (and hence feeling) like an upgraded, fresh version of yourself. That's where 2026 haircut trends come in...
So whether you're ready to ditch the security blanket of hair you've held onto far too long, you're looking for a chic strategy to try whilst going through the growing out process, or you just want a haircut as good as Hailey Bieber's, these are the haircut trends set to be big in 2026...
2026 Haircut Trends
We asked Australia's leading hairdressers to reveal the haircuts we'll be seeing everywhere this year...
The Sculpted Midi: Hailey Bieber
The vibe: Laura Kim (owner of Studio Muse & Aveda Colour Ambassador) describes the sculpted midi as "a mid-length cut sitting between the collarbone and shoulders. Structured, but not stiff."
What to ask for: "A blunt midi with light internal layering for subtle movement."
Reference: Look to Hailey Bieber’s mid-length cuts, says Kim.
Cloud Layers: Kaia Gerber
The vibe: Cloud layers are "long, soft layers that create movement without obvious shaping," Kim explains. "The silhouette stays light and natural."
What to ask for: "Diffused layers starting below the cheekbones with soft face-framing."
Reference: Kim says Kaia Gerber's long hair is what you'll need on your moodboard.
The Short Shag: Zendaya
The vibe: 2026's short shag cut is "a modern, refined version of the '90s shag. Lighter, shorter layers with volume at the crown, but still polished," Kim notes.
What to ask for: "Short to medium layers, crown lift, and soft ends that can be styled or left natural."
Reference: Start pinning pictures of Zendaya’s textured cuts.
The Feathered Butterfly: Bella Hadid
The vibe: Nathan Yazbek (2 x NSW Hairdresser of the Year, owner of Salon Yazbek and Goldwell National Artist) explains the feathered butterfly cut as "a layered feathered cut with volume around the face and soft layered ends."
What to ask for: "Face-framing layers", Yazbek confirms.
Reference: Think Bella Hadid's textured layers around her face.
The Bixie: Emma Stone
The vibe: Yazbek says the bixie is "a textured confident pixie haircut, that's not quite a bob, but not a short pixie. It's textured and has a soft tousle and a little bit of something to play with around the ears and back of the neck."
What to ask for: "Ask for something short around the side, but leave the lop long, all with lots of texture."
Reference: Emma Stone (who grew out a buzzcut better than anyone, ever).
The Parisian Bob: Lily Collins
The vibe: Piet Pantano (co-owner Wildlife Hair Sogo and KMS Lead Artist & Goldwell National Artist) explains the Parisian bob as "sharper, cleaner and more intentional than anything we’ve seen in years. Lily Collins’ polished bob in Emily in Paris again signals a return to precision. What makes this bob so powerful is its versatility. Cut correctly, it works across all age groups, making it modern, sophisticated and timeless at once."
What to ask for: "This is a cut-first bob: chin to jaw length, a strong perimeter, minimal layering and no unnecessary texture. It’s not about looking undone, it’s about looking decisive."
