Does your hair need a detox? Here's how to tell...

Healthy, strong strands incoming!

The product

So, your strands are seeming a little dull, lifeless and are looking for a refresh. Turns out you don't have to hit the salon and drop an incredibly expensive amount on a treatment and colour touch up. Nope, you can revive your strands at home with the power of a detox.

Sure, you might already be well acquainted with a detoxifying mask for your face, but it turns out, we've all been missing the memo when it came to detoxing our tresses. We'll get to the why in a moment, but we've recently come to the understanding (with the help of L'Oréal Professionnel) that metal toxins are harming our hair.

It sounds dire, and TBH it kind of is. Because metal particles found in your water (read: your shower could be doing you dirty), can penetrate your hair's fibres, resulting in breakage, hair fall and colour impact.

To combat this buildup, L'Oréal Professionnel launched their Metal Detox range, comprising of a Pre-Shampoo Treatment, Shampoo and Mask, AKA the holy trinity of strand reviving haircare products. Not only does the range leave your tresses tamed, strengthened and colour-revived, they also feature an incredible citrus-meets-woody fragrance. And as we always say, there's almost nothing better than getting a whiff of your hair after hair wash day.

And while we're big fans of using the entire range together for the best results, we've just got to highlight the innovative, effectiveness of the L'Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Pre-Shampoo Treatment. Its patented inclusion of Glicofiller not only coats the surface as a metal-stopping barrier, but also sinks into the core of your strands to work to fill and assist any existing damage. With its gel-like texture, the vegan, sulphate-free formula is able to give your strands the ultimate revival, with silky, strong and soft tresses on the horizon.

The panel

BEAUTYcrew sent the L'Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Pre-Shampoo Treatment to a panel of women aged 18-45 looking to refresh and revitalise their strands.

The lowdown

The lingering fragrance: We've said it before and we'll say it again, there is nothing better than getting a whiff of your haircare long after you've washed it out. The fresh scent lingering on your stands being a standout is a universal experience because our members loved the fresh, clean smell of this product lingering on their glossy strands.

How strong their strands felt: Our members found that removing the metal toxins from their strands made their hair not only feel a whole lot stronger, but also helped significantly reduce the signs of hair fall.

How hydrated and glossy their hair looked: If you're after healthy, shiny and more manageable strands, detoxifying is a must. The REVIEWcrew members found their tresses almost immediately looking healthier thanks to a decent quenching from the treatment. Plus, with its silky formula, the treatment meant that our members were able to more easily manage their now smooth and glossy hair.

Before trialing this product I didn’t realise the need or benefit for a product like this, I didn’t know what I was missing and now that I know the L’Oréal metal detox pre shampoo treatment exists I don’t think I can ever go back to not using a pre shampoo treatment. To start with I have blonde foiled hair that leans dry. Since starting this product I’ve noticed less breakage, my hair colour looks fresher and less dull, my hair feels softer and I can go longer between washes. The 250ml bottle will last a decent amount of time as a little goes a long way and the pre shampoo treatment has a nice smell. I totally recommend the L'Oréal pre shampoo treatment and will be purchasing this when I run out.

I love the magic that a pre-shampoo can do for my stressed hair and this is by far one of my favourites.

Immediately I was greeted with the heavenly scent. It smells like I am having a hair treatment at the salon.
This glided through my hair, detangling it. And it noticeably helped my hair stay overall less knotty. I definitely noticed that my hair felt stronger, softer and more hydrated. My blonde looked a bit more clear and styling was significantly more manageable.
As a time-poor mum, I also thoroughly appreciated that this only needed to sit on my hair for about 2 minutes before I could apply my shampoo and get on with the rest of my routine.
I have been recommending this pre-shampoo everyone. I love it and will absolutely repurchase.

I have been trialling this for over a month now and have been very impressed at how it has improved the condition of my hair. I have bleached balayage and heat style regularly so my hair is quite dry/damaged. This pre-treatment has helped to strengthen my hair, make it less prone to breakage, and it is less frizzy. It is more manageable to style and looks smoother and healthier. The product is easy and pleasant to use, with a mild scent and washes out with ease. The pump bottle is handy and a little goes a long way, so it will last quite awhile. I would continue to repurchase and incorporate it as part of my hair care routine.
