Obsessed with Odessa A’zion’s curls? Here’s when she was (and wasn’t) wearing a wig
The Internet has its theories, but she's just revealed the truth
If there’s one beauty question the Internet cannot let go of right now, it’s this: are Odessa A’zion’s curls real? Gracing everything from awards show red carpets to film premieres, A'zion's dark, sculptural ringlets have become a full-blown obsession, and, naturally, a rumour magnet. Wig? Natural hair? A bit of both? It was a mystery that social media was determined to solve.
After weeks of speculation, A’zion finally set the record straight while speaking to Deadline on the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet, and the answer is far more nuanced than a simple yes or no.
Does Odessa A’zion wear a wig?
Let’s start with the burning question. According to A'zion herself, the Internet wasn’t entirely wrong — but it also wasn’t completely right.
The I Love LA star laughed off the intense online debate around her hair, confirming that she has indeed worn wigs for specific appearances, including the December 8th Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Marty Supreme, where she debuted a shorter, tightly styled curly look that instantly sparked speculation.
However, in a plot twist no one saw coming, the hair moment fans were most convinced was a wig actually wasn’t one at all.
Her long, ultra-defined curls at the New York premiere of the same film were 100 per cent real. “The gag is the L.A. premiere was a wig, and the New York premiere — everyone thinks it’s a wig,” she told Deadline, revealing that the look took a marathon five hours to style.
And as for those rumours that she regularly wears high-end wigs? A'zion shut them down fast. Speaking candidly, she joked that luxury wigs can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000 USD — and that’s simply not her reality right now.
She also revealed she doesn’t currently have a full-time glam squad, explaining she’s doing her own hair, makeup and styling to save money. Here we were searching feverishly for her hair and makeup team in search of answers and full product breakdowns, but it looks like we'll have to wait to hear from A'zion herself...
The takeaway? Odessa A'zion wears wigs when the look calls for it — but many of her most viral hair moments are the result of patience, prep, and her stunning natural curl pattern.

Odessa A’zion curl routine
While A'zion hasn’t dropped a full curl routine (yet — we’re manifesting), her comments to Deadline offered up a few key clues about what it takes to achieve her signature look.
First, time. Five hours for one red carpet hairstyle tells us everything we need to know. This isn’t a wash-and-go situation. We're talking careful shaping, setting and refining to get each curl sitting just right. Luckily, her efforts are definitely rewarded in the results.
Second, versatility. The reason her hair causes so much confusion online is because she doesn’t stick to one predictable style. Sometimes that means a wig for a specific aesthetic or film premiere vibe; other times it’s her natural hair styled so flawlessly that it looks almost too good to be true.
Props to her: wig rumours have to be the ultimate compliment, especially when you're self-styling.
