Sydney Sweeney shares photos of her intense training schedule for upcoming Christy Martin biopic
Consider them receipts for body shaming Internet trolls
Sydney Sweeney's found herself at the centre of a fat-shaming campaign after the actress shared a behind the scenes glimpse of herself in costume as Christy Martin.
The biopic documents the early career of the professional boxer and Sweeney has been dedicated to an intense training schedule in preparation for the physically demanding role.
"Over the past few months, I've been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring," she shared via Instagram in October 2024. "Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honoured to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all."
"I can’t wait for you all to see it — not only because I’m proud of the transformation and the work I’ve poured into it, but because Christy’s story deserves to be told," she went on to say via Instagram when filming wrapped in November. "Yes, you’ll get to see me kick some serious ass, but most importantly, you’ll witness a story that’s as powerful as the woman who lived it. I’ll carry this experience with me forever."
But in December, Sweeney took to Instagram once more to share the unsettling news that Internet trolls had decided to target her after she'd transformed her body for the role. Rather than speaking to them directly, the 27 year old spliced together a montage of their comments with footage of the actress training for the biopic — check it out here.
Her followers, and fellow celebrities like Lilli Reinhart, Ke$ha, Madelyn Cline, and Isabela Merced, rallied in the comments section coming to her defense.
"It’s always wild to see people publicly out-themselves as pieces of shit with comments like that," said Lilli Reinhart. "You look incredible and your dedication to your project is very inspiring."
We certainly think so! Wondering what Sydney Sweeney has been eating as part of her diet, her favourite ways to exercise, and how she's managed to keep so fit for this film?
While she may have first catapulted into pop culture as Euphoria's resident romantic softie Cassie Howard, in real life, Sweeney is a whole lot tougher than her onscreen counterpart. For starters, not only does she crush it in mixed martial arts (um, incredible), but she's also managed to resist the temptations of soft drinks her entire life. See, we told you she was strong!

Sweeney's not the only celebrity who's had to up the ante when it comes to training in preparation for a job. Here's how to workout like Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin.
