Did we just decode a huge 'The Life of A Showgirl' Easter egg in Taylor Swift's bath water?
For anyone already thinking 'this is a stretch', let us remind you that Taylor Swift herself kicked off her 'The Life of a Showgirl' album release rollout with scent. Fragrancing her 'TLOAS' vinyl and CD packaging with the perfume pairing of 'sweat and vanilla' was the exact sign we needed to confirm that Swift takes the role of scent seriously, even in relation to her songs.
That was precisely when we came to a realisation surrounding the album visuals, a standout song title, and a certain viral fragrance. Yes, you've reached the centre of the 'Swiftie' and 'scent aficionado' Venn diagram and we're about to deep-dive into analysis that only those deep within it will understand. We sincerely hope you're one of them...
Taylor Swift 'Father Figure' meaning
We could wax lyrical about our breakdowns of 'Father Figure' as a song. Is it about Scott Borchetta, Swift's former manager? Is it a nod to Ed Kelce, Travis's own dad? Does it detail age gap-plagued relationships from Taylor's pre-Kelce dating history? Or maybe it's just an homage to George Michael's greatest work? All are possible.
But because we see everything through a beauty lens here at BEAUTYcrew, our thoughts have been revolving around another iteration of 'Father Figure'. Namely, the fragrance version: Phlur Father Figure Eau De Parfum ($171 at MECCA).
Now is Swift linked to Phlur, the fragrance brand behind this interestingly-named perfume? Not that we know of. Does the teal tone of the fragrance look eerily like the liquid Swift is bathing in on the album's cover? Definitely. Take a look at the two below and tell us those aren't twin visuals...

So are there any Easter eggs buried within the scent's profile? Perhaps. Aside from the possibility of those, you can expect hints of fleshy fig, creamy sandalwood, sheer patchouli, skin musks and vanilla madagascar.
Any specific notes stand out to you? Yep, exactly: skin musks (which we definitely think could be loosely translated to 'sweat') and vanilla. The very same notes Swift selected herself as the aroma assigned to represent the 'TLOAS' era.
Best case scenario: Swift and Phlur have teamed up on a scent collab to represent the meanings laced into 'Father Figure''s lyrics. Worst case scenario: we're way off but you found your new favourite perfume by reading this.
Phlur Father Figure review
$171 at MECCA
Inspired by hidden gardens, there's a real buttery, milky quality to this scent. It's complex and layered (just like a Swift song), with different notes growing more prominent as you wear. It opens with a fresh gust of waterlily and fig, develops to reveal iris flower and jasmine dew, and then settles into a musky skin-like vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood sandwich.
We advise grabbing enough bottles to fill a bathtub (okay, dramatic, that's a waste of a scent this good, and probably not amazing for the skin). But you'll definitely want at least one in your collection ASAP - if there is any connection and the Swifties get word of this, we may never see it in stock for long again. And with a scent this dreamy, longwearing and layered, it would be a damn shame to miss out.
Regardless of the realism behind our theory, we'll be doused in Father Figure EDP whilst 'TLOAS' plays on loop. It fits the aesthetic, scent profile and lyricism too well to go any other way.
