Meet the unexpected (but incredible) beauty duos

Enter: The game-changers

Content Producer / July 11 2025

We all know the beauty powerhouse duos that go together like Taylor and Travis. Red lips and a winged liner? Iconic. But what about the seriously unexpected combos that somehow just work against all odds? Would you have thought to pair them together? Hey, maybe not, but that’s why we’re here to give you the beauty intel.

We’re talking beauty duos that truly altered our brain chemistry, and made us rethink our regular beauty routines. So, strap in, because we’re taking you on a ‘trust us’ journey, and you’re going to be so much better off because of it.

Unexpected Beauty Duos

Hair Oil and Dry Shampoo

Hear us out, we know that you’re spritzing your strands with half a can of dry shampoo hoping to balance and banish the unwanted oils. So, why would we suggest adding more oil? Well, because shimmering, silky strands are the goal.

But how do you pair the two to make them a truly unbeatable duo? Instead of desperately spraying and praying to save day four hair, we’re talking about a little root-lifting spritz on day two. Pair your now voluminous roots with shimmering ends by running a small amount of your fave hair oil (we’re obsessed with the OG Moroccanoil Treatment, $78.50 at Adore Beauty) through the mid-lengths to ends of your strands. And voilà, you’ve got hair that’s the ideal hybrid of fresh and glossy.

Retinol and Vitamin C

Having an active-packed skin care routine has become the norm. So much so that we’re even used to ‘cycling’ through our various skin care routines. But what if we told you that retinol and vitamin C could now be used together? Unheard of, right? Well, Lancôme clearly heard our cries for more multitasking holy grail products and launched the revolutionary Rénergie C.R.x. Triple Serum Retinol ($244 at Myer). The triple-action powered serum is transforming the way we layer our skin care ingredients - for the first time ever, retinol, vitamin C and x-peptides are being combined.

Housed in three separate chambers, the ingredients blend when applied to your skin, brightening, rejuvenating and hydrating as they go and working to leave you with an unbeatable visible radiance.

Occlusive Moisturiser and Perfume

We know we’re not the first ones to let you in on this secret but game-changing combo, but it’s still a little-known fact that we need everyone to know about. Occlusive moisturisers (think: Vaseline) are going to help your perfume last longer.

How? The moisturiser acts as a barrier and a carrier all in one. Apply a thin layer under your signature scent to slow the absorption of your fragrance, to ensure you’ll be smelling it for longer.

Multi-Masking

If you’ve got combination skin, we’re going to let you in on a little masking fact. Your fave face masks don’t have to go all over your face. Instead, you’re going to want to take your detoxifying clay mask over the spots where your skin needs to be clarified, apply a hydrating mask in any dry spots and hey, follow it all up with a brightening option — because everyone’s complexion can always use a little something extra.

Active-Packed Body Moisturiser and Fake Tan

Are you a full body moisturiser pre-fake tan application? If not, it’s time to take your tan routine up a level. Not only should you be moisturising to help your tan last longer, but opting for an active-packed moisturiser will help with a final exfoliation before layering on that golden faux glow — hello long-lasting, non-patchy tan
