From fashion week's front row to red carpets it's abundantly clear that there's a new hair trend in town and it's not afraid to grab everyone's attention.

Not that we need to spell it out to you, because you've probably already noticed celebrities like Emma Stone, Joey King, Pamela Anderson and Keke Palmer sporting an autumnal copper shade of hair

However, what you might not have realised is that this warm-hued hair trend has actually already been dubbed the 'pumpkin spice' hair trend.

What does pumpkin spice hair look like?

"The Pumpkin Spice hair trend is the perfect mix of copper, auburn, and brunette tones," expert hair colourist and Edwards&Co founder, Jaye Edwards, tells BEAUTYcrew. "It’s that rich, spicy warmth that gives the hair some light and dimension."

"It’s all about warmth and depth. You’ll see a balance between copper and gold, it's rich and completely customisable to suit your features," he elaborates. "Think: Shades of copper, red, amber and warm brunette."

How to get pumpkin spice hair

Ask your stylist for a warm copper base with golden or strawberry blonde highlights softly blended through the ends, says Edwards.

"The key is a multidimensional finish, not one flat tone," he explains. "It's always great to have some inspo pictures for the consultation, but trust your colourist to adjust the depth and warmth to suit your skin tone and natural hair colour."

However, word to the wise, copper tones fade faster than most colours, which is why Edwards suggests booking in for a gloss appointment every six to eight weeks weeks to keep the colour vibrant.

"Full colour touch-ups can stretch a bit longer — around 10 to 12 weeks — depending on your base, and how often you wash your hair," he explains.

How to maintain pumpkin spice hair

"To maintain the health and integrity of your hair after a pumpkin spice hair transformation, I recommend the O&M CØR.restore Colour Lock Milk ($47.96 from Adore Beauty) and O&M CØR.restore Leave In Treatment ($39.96 from Adore Beauty)," says Edwards. "This duo will extend the life of your colour."

"For those in between salon visits, I recommend the O&M CLEAN.tone Copper Treatment ($34.46 from Adore Beauty) for those with warmer to lighter copper hair, or the O&M CLEAN.tone Red Colour Treatment ($34.46 from Adore Beauty) for those with darker and richer tones, with a brunette base," he advises. "These colour treatments will keep your pumpkin spice colour fresh."

Is it hard to return to your natural hair colour?

"It’s definitely possible, but it takes care and patience," Edwards tells us.

"Copper pigment loves to hang on to hair, so going back to blonde usually means a few lightening sessions to lift it cleanly," he explains. "For brunettes, it’s an easier shift, we can tone it down gradually without over processing the hair."
