The affordable routine behind Selena Gomez's glossy hair at the Oscars

We're talking 'nothing over $50' affordable
When celebrity hair stylist Renato Campora and Selena Gomez link up for red carpet events something magical happens. Case in point? This cheekbone-defining updo Gomez debuted at the New York Film Festival in October of last year.
And this year, at the Oscars, we were treated to another awe-inspiring collaboration from the iconic duo.
Campora designed a glossy, Grace Kelly inspired look for Gomez that shone almost as much as her Swarovski-encrusted Ralph Lauren gown, Bvlgari jewels, and marquise cut diamond engagement ring from Benny Blanco.
"I was inspired by the silhouette of the dress and jewellery. Channeling the timeless elegance of Hollywood glamour movie star. A deep side part and polished pin curls exuded sophistication and elegance," he shared via press release.
However, we were shocked to discover that the hairstylist managed to achieve the luxurious look using a hair kit of affordable products. We're talking 'nothing over $50' affordable.
Want to know which products made it into Campora's Oscars kit? This is every single hair product and styling tool he used on the Emilia Perez star.
He washed her strands with a protective hair ritual
No good hair care routine is possible without a solid in-shower hair wash ritual. For the Oscars, Campora cleansed Gomez's strands with the Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo ($25.95 from Oz Hair & Beauty) and Joico Defy Damage Protective Conditioner ($25.95 from Oz Hair & Beauty), which works to enhance the shine, vibrancy and hydration of each individual hair strand for healthier looking hair overall. "They leave her hair incredibly clean and moisturised," said Campora.
"I love giving Selena a three-minute all-over hair massage with Joico Defy Damage KBOND20 Power Masque ($41.95 from Adore Beauty) for added bond-building and hydration," he explained.

He prepped the hair for styling when it was wet
To minimise fly-aways and frizz, and enhance manageability, Campora applied a series of styling products to Gomez's strands after he had towel-dried her hair, while it was still wet.
He raked the Joico Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Crème ($27.99 from Oz Hair & Beauty) and Joico's JoiWhip Firm Hold Design Foam ($27.99 from Oz Hair & Beauty) through from roots to ends.
"The combination of the Joico products and Dyson hair tools is a powerful combination that allows for a quick, round-brush blowout using the Dyson Supersonic™ r Professional Hair Dryer at high heat and high air flow settings. My goal is to achieve full, lush, bouncy, shiny, and healthy-looking hair," he explained.
"Next, in larger sections, I spray Joico Heat Hero Glossing Thermal Protector ($28.99 from Oz Hair & Beauty) and flat iron the hair with the Dyson Corrale™ straightener ($699 from Dyson) at medium heat settings to smooth out any remaining flyaways and add extra shine. [Then], I create curl-like waves in 2-inch sections at the ends. Roll up and pin the ends and keep roots flat to the head to set," he continued.

He prioritised lightweight, shine-enhancing finishing products
After letting the hair cool for 15 minutes, Campora misted Gomez's hair with Joico's Humidity Blocker+ Protective Finishing Spray ($27.99 from Oz Hair & Beauty). This invisible and lightweight styling product promises up to 24 hours of high-shine frizz, humidity and static protection, which sounds like a great description of the viral ColorWow Dream Coat Spray ($54.99 from Chemist Warehouse) — hmmm, do we have a dupe on our hands?
"Once the hair is ready, I brush it out and spray each section inward with Joico's Power Fast Dry Finishing Hair Spray ($26.95 from Price Attack) for long-lasting brilliance, shine, and beauty," he explained.

Gomez isn't the only celebrity who's opted for affordable beauty products on the red carpet recently — Miley Cyrus wore a full face of Maybelline to the Grammys.
