Aimee Lou Wood just shared her makeup routine

And dropped some beauty-related wisdom on us while she was at it
Aimee Lou Wood first grabbed our attention as the hilariously clueless Aimee Gibbs in Sex Education, but these days she's playing the lead in shows like Daddy Issues, Toxic Town and The White Lotus.
With the number of appearances she's made in various projects over the past year, we're surprised she even has time in the day to apply her own makeup. And in a recent TikTok, she did admit she rarely has to paint her face thanks to her makeup artist sister, Emily Wood, and the fact that she's perpetually sitting in an on-set makeup chair.
However, that doesn't mean she doesn't keep a few key products in her kit when she needs to take matters into her own hands. Keep scrolling to discover the makeup products that made the cut when Wood was curating her simple, everyday makeup routine
Every step in Aimee Lou Wood's makeup routine
"This is quite a big deal for me today, I'm doing my own makeup, which is rare — I'm really bad at it," Wood joked via TikTok as she applied Merit's The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick ($61 from Merit). "I grew up with a makeup artist sister, so I never even did it [growing up], and then I became an actor and everyone is always doing it for me."
"This is perfect, because look, you can just scribble" she said, referring to Merit's Flush Balm in the shade 'Archival' ($48 from Merit).
"I will keep doing this all day long," she admitted as she buffed the cream tint into her cheeks with a stippling brush. "It just actually has a genuine positive impact on my mood. Even if nothing else is on — blusher is on."
"The one thing I really miss about Thailand — I was there for seven months filming White Lotus — I had a constant glow," said Wood. "A lot of that was sweat — it was very humid."
"Now I look back at photos and I think 'oh my god'. I'm not really a highlighter girl, but ever since Thailand it's become an essential," she explained as she patted Merit's Day Glow Highlighting Balm ($51 from Merit) on the high points of her face.

"So eyebrows are very, very sensitive. I had a bit of a nightmare [at] my prom, [I] went and got them threaded — she took off 99 per cent of my eyebrow," Wood explained. "So now I don't let anyone touch my eyebrows. Even when I did a film that was set in the 1950s and they were saying 'we can't have this bushiness because this is not a 1950s brow', and I let them take off like one hair."
These days, instead of plucking or waxing, Wood uses the Merit Brow 1980 Volumising Pomade in 'Taupe' ($38 from Merit) to style and groom her lush arches. Then she pats the brand's Solo Shadow in 'Studio' ($38 from Merit) — a cool taupe cream eye shadow — all over her lids.
"So playing loads of different characters has really helped with my self confidence surrounding beauty, because it's meant I've had to surrender control a lot," she admitted.
"A big thing for me growing up was my mouth, because it was the thing that everyone pointed out, and it was the thing that made me different," she continued, as she applied Merit's Signature Lip Liner in 'Coupe' (not available in Australia) and Shade Slick in 'Pointelle' ($38 from Merit).
"I had never seen an actress on TV with teeth like mine. When Georgia Jagger did [Rimmel's] 'Get The London Look' and she had the gap teeth, that was a huge moment, and I thought 'no I am going to put red lipstick on and I am going to draw attention to it'," she said.
"The more that you can surrender, the more beautiful you feel — and that's the look," she explained.

Wood isn't the only TV star who's struggled with thin eyebrows, her Sex Education co-star Simone Ashley overplucked her eyebrows for a long time.

Briar Clark got her start in the media industry in 2017, as an intern for Marie Claire and InStyle. Since then, her keen interest in fashion and beauty has landed her gigs as a Digital Content Producer and Beauty Editor with titles like Girlfriend, Refinery29, BEAUTYcrew and beautyheaven. She loves the way seemingly innocuous topics like skin care and style have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces or make them think about themselves a little differently. A big believer in self love and experimentation, Briar has made a point of becoming the Australian beauty industry’s unofficial guinea pig for unusual treatments and daring hair trends. When she’s not testing out the latest beauty launches, Briar is big on broadening her horizons, mostly in the form of food but she’s also partial to travelling to new destinations both near and far (and of course, allocating an extra bag to bring their best beauty offerings home with her).
