Cynthia Erivo wore a full face of this popular beauty brand to the 'Wicked' premiere

Defying Sydney's humidity

The Wicked cast kicked off the Journey Through Oz world premiere tour in Sydney on Sunday 3rd November, and the beauty looks did not disappoint.

Ariana Grande threw subtlety out the window and pulled out her very best Galinda cosplay for the Sydney Wicked fans with the help of her makeup artist Michael Anthony. We're talking a whole lot of pink, glitter and a dramatically large sleeve, of course.

However, rather than revisit the green complexion of her character, Cynthia Erivo's makeup artist, Joanna Simkin, beat the actress' face for the gods. Simkin used a full face of Charlotte Tilbury — including her aptly-named magic skin care — to accentuate Erivo's natural beauty. Meanwhile nail artist, Rose Hackle, tackled the 'something green' aspect of Erivo's ensemble with a custom set of lengthy emerald green nails.

Want to know how Joanna Simkin achieved Cynthia Erivo's luminous red carpet glow on a balmy (read: humid) spring day in Sydney? This is the full product breakdown of the Elphaba actress' premiere makeup look...

1/ The skin ritual

To prep Erivo's skin for the red carpet Simkin used a quartet of Charlotte Tilbury skin care products. First, she applied the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask ($35 from Charlotte Tilbury) for 15 minutes to hydrate, brighten, smooth, and plump the complexion.

Then she followed it up with an eye massage using the cooling metal tip applicator of the Charlotte Tilbury Cryo Recovery Eye Serum ($95 from Charlotte Tilbury), which helps to depuff, brighten, energise, smooth, firm and lift the under eye area.

After refreshing Erivo's complexion with a mini facial, Simkin sealed in the ingredients of the mask and eye treatment with the Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte's Magic Serum Crystal Elixir ($123 from Charlotte Tilbury) and the Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte's Magic Water Cream ($149 from Charlotte Tilbury). Both products work synergistically to promote a more hydrated, plump, and unified youthful-looking complexion.

2/ The complexion routine

If there's one thing that stood out to us about Erivo's makeup, it was her flawless complexion. Simkin used a combination of Charlotte Tilbury's complexion products in a number of shades to create a custom base for the Wicked star. First, she mixed together two shades of Charlotte Tilbury's Hollywood Flawless Filter in '7 Deep' and '8 Deep' ($70 from Charlotte Tilbury) to enhance the luminosity of Erivo's skin. Then, she used the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation in '15 Warm' and '16 Cool' ($70 from Charlotte Tilbury) in combination to match Erivo's neutral undertones. Touching up around the eyes and spot concealing as needed with the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer in '15.5' and '17.75' ($51 from Charlotte Tilbury).

3/ The sun kissed glow

We don't know how she did it, but Simkin managed to get the balance of Erivo's bronzer and blush just right. The woman sure knows how to blend. She used mostly cream cheek products to achieve a natural, skin-like finish — Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer in 'Deep' ($84 from Charlotte Tilbury), Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand in 'Spotlight' ($60 from Charlotte Tilbury), and Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand in 'Dream Pop' ($60 from Charlotte Tilbury).

But she set the cream bronzer, blush and highlight with powder formulations to ensure longevity in the Sydney heat. She used the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer in 'Deep' ($84 from Charlotte Tilbury), the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Glow Glide Gold Highlighter in 'Gilded Glow' ($73 from Charlotte Tilbury), and the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in 'Deep' ($73 from Charlotte Tilbury).

4/ The smokey eye

Cynthia Erivo is one of the few humans who could wear a smokey eye everyday and we'd still call her a natural queen — the look just suits her so well. On this particular occasion Simkin applied a few grey and cool-toned brown shimmer shadows to create a rock glam effect. She used a combination of the Charlotte Tilbury Hypnotising Pop Shot in 'Smokey Quartz' ($51 from Charlotte Tilbury) and the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in 'The Rock Chick' ($89 from Charlotte Tilbury). Then she smoked out the water line and lash line with the Charlotte Tilbury The Classic Liner in 'Classic Black' ($40 from Charlotte Tilbury).

5/ The lip combo

To balance out Erivo's glam rock eye look, Simkin stuck to a palette of nude-hued neutrals for the lip makeup. She used the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in 'Pillow Talk Deep' and 'Foxy Brown' ($38 from Charlotte Tilbury) to contour the actress' natural lip line for a fuller looking pout. Then she filled in the rest of her lips using a matte finish lip cream — Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Lip Blur in Nude Blur' ($54 from Charlotte Tilbury).
